cropped-egyptborder.pngAncient Egyptian History began long before the Scorpion King. But I was very interested in the people of the First Dynasty. I chose to follow the life of King Aha, the son of Narmer, the Scorpion King, because history tells us he met a most unusual death. Thus, the hook for my novel. All the words we connect with Egypt were not used back then–such as Egypt, Pharaoh, the Nile. Those words would come into existence when the Greeks visited the very old civilization. Words such as cataracts were unheard of–they were simply called waterfalls. Egypt was simply KEMET, the Black Land. Pharaoh was not yet “The Great House” but simply, Ruler or King.
In “Murder by the Gods” I chose to follow young king Aha, as his family is threatened by an ancient evil sect who follow the god of darkness–Set. They begin killing members of the royal family and Aha and his friend Ako begin tracking down those who follow Set. Aha and Ako’s names both begin with A which is confusing at times, but authentic names are to be used when dealing with a written history. It proved to be quite an adventure. The sequel is in the works and should be published this fall. I found the ancient Egyptians or people of the Black Land to be highly intelligent, and no unlike the people of today. Their culture including the arts and monuments intrigue us to this day.
